With high, floating tones, the cello sound slowly builds from top to bottom and as the ice thaws it develops into a rich, lively, undulating chord, the high sounds mutating into overtones. With the emerging young face (fictional/AI-based), overlaying the increasingly moving water, a changing pulse sets in over the course of the video, from initially fast and quiet to slow and strong in the middle to slightly faster but faint, ending in a surface that dissolves. “Floating on a point, time flies by”. The first motifs begin in the middle section, improvisatory, on different levels, overlapping, like movements in the depths of the river. The overtones fade away and the sound becomes increasingly darker and quieter until it comes to rest in low C and fades out into the distance.
The composition is referring to the following quote:
„Time goes and leaves us, no matter how much we may be stingy about it.
Neither the future is mine, nor the past.
I hover on a point of fleeing time, and greatness is to be frugal.“
Lucius Annaeus Seneca (ca. 4 BC – 65 AD)
…a film about life, being-in-now, transience, water, memory, memories, superimpositions, change, beginning and end, being, staying…
